Design and build your own sculptural ceramic lamp in this 4-week intermediate class focused on form, function, and light. We’ll begin by developing ideas through drawing and sketching, exploring how shape, texture, and silhouette interact with illumination. Students will use a variety of handbuilding techniques—including slab, coil, and sculptural construction—to create unique ceramic forms designed to hold light. Surface decoration methods such as carving, slip application, and texture will add depth and personality to each piece. Throughout the course, we’ll address both artistic and technical considerations for functional lighting. Lamp kits, glazing, and kiln firings are all included.
