This eight-week course is designed for beginners looking to learn the essential foundations of pottery, focusing on foundational techniques like pinch, coil, and slab construction. Instructor Rhea will guide students through the core stages of the ceramic process, from preparing the clay to finishing functional or sculptural pieces. The curriculum accommodates absolute beginners learning the basics of pinch, coil, and slab construction, as well as intermediate students looking to refine their form or experiment with alterations.

Class meets weekly on Saturday mornings from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, running from June 27th - August 15th.

Included Studio Access

To support skill development outside of instruction, registration includes 2.5 hours of independent open studio time per week. These hours must be utilized during the studio's designated open hours and allow students to practice construction, trimming, or glazing at their own pace.

Materials and Firing Fees

  • Tool Kit: A standard pottery tool kit is required for the class and is available for purchase at the studio for $20.

  • Firing Fees: Firing costs are calculated by volume at $0.03 per cubic inch per fire. The total cost for a completed piece requiring both bisque and glaze firings is $0.06 per cubic inch.

Studio Preparation

  • Attire: Pottery is a messy process. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you do not mind getting dirty.
